Mission to Haiti

Mission to Haiti, Veronica’s Way’s first trip was such a powerful and eye-opening experience. Most of the travel team did not know how to speak the native language, Creole.  With the help of Napoleon Metelus and Lynn Casimir, the team was able to work with two interpreters and utilize technology to communicate with the Haitians.

Our team spent a week cleaning computer labs at Les Joyuax and College Saint-Martin De Tours. The administrative teams at both Les Joyuax and College Saint-Martin De Tours were welcoming and accepted our team with open arms.  Mission to Haiti afforded us the opportunity to donate computers and transform two spaces into digital learning spaces for over 2000 children to utilize.

“One moment I will never forget was meeting a young student; he was the first student to see the lab and to use a computer. His face was so bright and filled with joy. I wanted to teach him how to use the computer but, he could not speak English fluently and I did not know how to fluently speak Creole at all. I showed him how to type his name. I then responded by typing my name. It was at that very moment we finally understood each other, and we were formally introduced.”

Our inaugural team was compromised of Napoleon Metelus, Lynn Casimir, Larry Goodin, Tamera Jordan, Kendra Britto, and Crispin Booker.
